Andreia’s Tips on Choosing a Wedding Photographer:

1.  What professional organizations is your photographer a member?  There are many organizations out there but some of the most reputable include the Professional Photographer of America and the Georgia Professional Photographers Association.

2.  How many times will your photographer back up your wedding photographs?  Your initial unedited images should be backup up on an external hard drive and on a CD or DVD stored in a fire safe environment.

3.  What type of equipment does your photographer use?  With camera manufacturers producing “consumer,” “pro-sumer” and “professional” quality level cameras it is important to know which level your photographer will be using to record your images.  And, does your photographer bring back up equipment in the case of an equipment failure?

4.  Does your photographer have the shooting style that appeals to you?  Do you see classic portraits?  What about the moments that will tell the story of your wedding?  And does your photographer remember the details special to each wedding he or she records?

5.  Does your photographer have a likable personality and do you feel comfortable working with him or her?  You will be spending a lot of time with your photographer over the months, so it is important that you feel comfortable with your photographer’s personality.

6.  Most importantly, does your photographer have experience?  Do you really want your wedding day to be someone’s “test” shoot?  This is not a day that can be redone if the photographs don’t turn out well.  While everyone works with a budget when planning a wedding, don’t make the mistake of hiring a family member, friend or an amateur to shoot your wedding.  Once the wedding is over, it’s over, so hire a professional!
